Sleepy Hollow is a great movie with great actors. There are Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee, Christina Ricci… Tim Burton is the director. The plot is excellent, the famous detective Ichabod Crane who is very intelligent is sent to Sleepy Hollow where strange murders are happening. The killer is a headless horseman who kills his victims in a pattern, taking their heads.

What is the pattern, who is the headless horseman, what is going on, Johnny Depp has to find out. The film has excellent effects, some vintage which is very rare in recent films. Mist, scarecrows, carved pumpkins, haunted tree, witches, headless horseman… It’s all very well done. The excellent cast put a lot of effort into their roles. The film features plenty of action, bloody effects, violence, and gruesome elements.

An interesting fact I was unaware of until recently is that the small town of Sleepy Hollow itself was built around a small duck pond for movie purpose. Over the course of four months, at an estimated cost of around $1.3 million back then, twelve structures were erected—some featuring elaborately designed interiors and exteriors. The effects were primarily practical, with limited computer-generated effects.

The movie is based on it is on Washington Irving’s 1820 story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. The only thing I didn’t like was that somewhere in some scenes there is a comedic approach, which I don’t think is necessary in such an excellent and serious film. That’s why the rating is less than me 9/10 otherwise a pure ten. A must see around Halloween.
