Watermill

In the old days, a woman had a daughter and a stepdaughter. They had a watermill somewhere in the forest, near the village. A woman sends her stepdaughter to spend the night in a mill because of some work. And on purpose, since she didn’t love her yet, she made bad bread, food and sent her away. There was one dog, one cat and a rooster in the mill. She headed there, when she arrived, it was time to eat. The food was bad, so she ate a little, and gave the rest to those animals.

In the dead of night, someone knocks on the door. She opened it, and it was the devils. They forced her to go with them into the water, under the wheel to grind her. She came to her senses, and shouted to the animals: “bark my dog, meow my cat, sing my rooster!” And the dog barked, the cat meowed, and the rooster crowed, and the devils disappeared. But the moment they disappeared, they left her a nice dress and shoes. She returned home in the morning, the stepmother saw new things and immediately asked where she got them from. She explained how some came to lead her under the wheel, but the animals spoke, they disappeared and left these things. The woman immediately said, “Well, now Cveta will go!” Cveta was her daughter. She immediately sent her daughter to the mill in the early hours of the morning, but prepared everything nicely for her. She kneaded good bread, slaughtered a good chicken and fried the meat nicely. Everything nice. When Cveta came, she immediately started having dinner, everything beautiful and delicious, and she ate it all herself.

In the dead of night, devils appear, knock on the door, she opens it and they say to her: “Come on Cveta, let’s take you under the wheel to grind you”. Cveta shouted to the animals: “bark my dog, meow my cat, sing my rooster!” The dog says to her: “You ate alone, bark alone”, the cat says to her: “You ate alone, meow alone” and the rooster tells her; “You ate alone, you crow alone.” And the devils caught her, threw her under the mill and the wheel grinded her. Immediately in the morning, her mother couldn’t wait for her to come, she ran and started calling Cveta. And the devils shouted from afar: “Cveta’s intestines are around the wheel!”
