Since the last century, there have been numerous conspiracy theories claiming that extraterrestrials kidnap people and conduct experiments on them. Many orbs of light or unusual shapes in the sky have been attributed to spaceships and flying saucers. In horror and Halloween lore, extraterrestrials are often depicted as hostile beings from other planets, star systems, or dimensions invading Earth to conquer, colonize, or exploit the planet and humanity.
Alien invasions have been a staple of popular culture for generations, evolving from 1950s black-and-white pulp cinema into high-budget sci-fi horror.

In film, these invasions generally fall into three distinct archetypes:
– Covert Invasion: Extraterrestrials arrive in secret, their presence undetected by the public. Operating entirely from the shadows, they build clandestine networks and infiltrate power structures by body-snatching, controlling, or disguising themselves as high-ranking humans (as seen in Invasion of the Body Snatchers and They Live).
– Subversive Invasion: The aliens arrive overtly, claiming peaceful intentions. Humanity welcomes them with open arms, unaware that the facade of friendship hides a calculated betrayal designed to lower Earth’s defenses before striking (a trope famously seen in V and Mars Attacks!).
– Direct Invasion: An outright, full-scale military offensive. Massive alien armadas and flying saucers unleash devastating firepower, reducing major cities to ash and leaving civilization in ruins (epitomized by The War of the Worlds and Independence Day).

While the archetypal “Greys” or ,,Greens” with oversized bald heads and large black eyes define retro sci-fi aesthetics, modern depictions range from grotesque biomechanical predators to cosmic, formless entities. Globally, countless urban legends, UFO folklore, and abduction accounts have kept the terror of these beings alive.
Because of this profound dread of cosmic insignificance, abductions, and sinister experiments, aliens have rightfully earned their place among classic Halloween monsters. Today, they remain a permanent fixture in seasonal costume stores, inspiring a wide range of masks, props, and glowing UFO-themed animatronics.
